Charlie Davies Car Accident may dent the us chances in the World Cup
Posted On 10/14/2009 11:18:13

US national team striker Charlie Davies (left), 23 was injured in a car accident early Tuesday morning in Virginia.  There was only one car involved in the crash and the other person in the car was killed.  Authorities were unsure who was driving.  Charlie Davies was stable after surgery on Tuesday afternoon, and his disclosed injuries were not considered life threatening, but his exact condition is unknown.

The US team has already secured a spot at the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa, and will face Costa Rica on Wednesday in Washington in their final qualifier. There are fears that Charlie Davies car accident may severely dent US chances in FIFA world cup next year. He was severely injured in a car accident that killed a person and severely injured two other people besides Charlie Davies.

So far there is no report on how their Lexus truck overturned so badly that it broke in half and badly injured the US national team soccer player.

The accident happened in Northern Virginia near Federal capital Wshington.

Davies started playing soccer at a very early age. After prep school Davies attended Boston College, where he starred for the Eagles for three seasons.

His sophomore season was cut short due a knee injury suffered in the first half of the season opener.

During his college years he also played with Westchester Flames of the USL Premier Development League, scoring six goals in nine appearances.

He was a finalist for the Hermann Trophy in 2006, capping his comeback season. He finished his college career with twenty-four goals and ten assists in thirty-seven games, including fifteen goals in sixteen games his final season

Rather than finishing his degree at Boston College, Davies decided to turn pro after three years of college.

He was a well-established professional prospect, and was expected to be a very high MLS draft pick had he chosen to accept the Generation Adidas contract that he was offered.

Ultimately, Davies decided to try his luck in Europe rather than signing with Major League Soccer.

Meanwhile U.S. Soccer Federation Neil Buethe says Davies is in stable condition after more than 5 hours of surgery. His injuries are not life-threatening.

Mexico, USA secure passage
Posted On 10/11/2009 02:58:06

(PA) Sunday 11 October 2009

Mexico and USA secured 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ qualification thanks to wins over El Salvador and Honduras respectively, in the penultimate round of North American qualifying.

Javier Aguirre's Mexico side claimed a convincing 4-1 home win to end El Salvador's hopes of making it to South Africa, while USA were 3-2 winners away to Honduras. Mexico knew they needed the three points and took the lead after 25 minutes through an own goal by Marvin Gonzalez after Cuauhtemoc Blanco had shot on goal.

El Tri extended their lead in the 71st minute when Blanco scored with his right foot from a Guillermo Franco pass. With only six minutes to go, 36-year-old Juan Francisco Palencia made it 3-0, but Julio Martinez scored from a free-kick for El Salvador two four minutes later. Carlos Vela added a fourth for Mexico in injury time.

Aguirre, who succeeded Sven-Goran Eriksson in April, felt qualification was the result of plenty of hard work. He said: "I feel calm. When you achieve the goals you were hired to do you feel satisfied.

"There were some difficulties, not everyone likes you, but I know I will sleep well. It was an intense first half tonight. Tension makes you want to win the game before time. As soon as the team scored, they played better."

El Salvador's Mexican-born coach Carlos de los Cobos congratulated Aguirre and Mexico for clinching FIFA World Cup qualification. "Tonight, Mexico won deservedly and played a great match even though we also had important moments in the game," he said.

USA joy
Bob Bradley's USA side had to work very hard for their 3-2 win over Honduras in San Pedro Sula, Conor Casey chipping in with a brace. After a goalless first period, the Catrachos went ahead in the 47th minute when Julio de Leon beat Tim Howard with a decent shot.

However, Casey headed the ball home seven minutes later to level the game. Casey scored again from Landon Donovan's pass in the 65th minute and Donovan himself extended America's lead from a free-kick six minutes later. De Leon gave Honduras hope by scoring his second seven minutes later, but Carlos Pavon sent a glorious chance to equalise from the penalty spot over the bar as Honduras slipped to fourth in the standings.

Costa Rica hammered ten-man Trinidad and Tobago 4-0 in San Jose to move up to third in the standings. An own goal by Julius James put Costa Rica ahead in the 26th minute and Walter Centeno doubled the lead five minutes into the second half after being set up by Alvaro Saborio.

Saborio himself netted a quickfire brace midway through the second half before James saw his night go from bad to worse when he was sent off. The Ticos could have scored a fifth but Trinidad keeper Marvin Phillip saved a Randall Azofeifa penalty.

On Wednesday Costa Rica and Honduras will battle it out for the last automatic FIFA World Cup qualifying spot. The Ticos will claim it if they win away to the USA. If they draw or lose Honduras can seal their place in South Africa with a win over El Salvador. The side who misses out and finishes fourth will face a play-off against the fifth-placed side in South America.

Fifa world Cup in the USA
Posted On 08/14/2009 16:25:59

Dear Friend,

Do you want to help bring the FIFA World Cup™ back to the USA?

Right now, FIFA, the international governing body of soccer, is deciding which nations will host the 2018 and 2022 tournaments. Thirteen countries are in the process of completing eleven bids -- including the United States!

Before FIFA makes its decision, we need to show them just how strongly Americans want to host the FIFA World Cup™. The USA Bid Committee has created a huge petition campaign and we need your help to spread the word. By signing the petition you are helping the United States' bid and adding your voice to those of millions!

Click here to sign the petition. As a special bonus, the first 25,000 signers will receive a FREE bumper sticker to show support for our World Cup bid:

http://gousabid.com/petition

You've heard it a thousand times: Americans don't care about soccer and we don't play the Game. Nothing could be further from the truth.

From our youth leagues to our victory over Spain -- the world's #1-ranked team -- in the FIFA Confederations Cup, U.S. soccer just keeps getting stronger. And no one can question our passion for the Game after the 51-day "Summer of Soccer" showcase, with more than 2 million American soccer fans attending top-flight matches with some of the most-recognized clubs in the world.

Today, the United States has more than 24.4 million active soccer players -- that's the second-most in the world. We also rank first in the world with 3.9 million registered youth soccer players and 1.9 million registered female players -- numbers that continue to grow every year. Major League Soccer is thriving and expanding, and the U.S. Men's National Team is on its way to qualifying for its sixth-straight FIFA World Cup™, a feat only matched by nine other countries in FIFA's history.

The Game is in U.S. and soccer is alive and well in the United States, but I don't need to tell you that.

Sign the petition, get your free sticker, and help bring the FIFA World Cup™ back to the USA:

http://gousabid.com/petition

Soccer is the world's Game, but no nation embodies the spirit of the FIFA World Cup™ like the United States. We are the world's melting pot, a uniquely globalized nation that thrives on its diversity and respect for different cultures. The USA bid allows all fans of the Game to come together behind a common cause, setting aside their loyalties to club or country.

It's a Game where individuals shine through talent and creativity -- but team success comes from hard work, sacrifice, and dedication. This is precisely the American spirit.

Across the United States -- from our schoolyards to our stadiums, our church parking lots to our cornfields, our city streets to our beaches -- soccer pulses through this nation and inspires new Americans every day.

Help show FIFA that we would be honored to host the FIFA World Cup™ in 2018 or 2022. Sign the petition and get your sticker today:

http://gousabid.com/petition

This is our chance to show the world that the Game is in U.S. and bring the greatest event on Earth back to our country.

Thanks for your support.
